Dear Aviva,
this is a great idea. It is amazing how much influence that medium has (the telly). Excuse if I ramble, I'm a bit sleep deprived at present. It struck me at the workshop the other week, when someone said she saw a homebirth on tv as a kid (I think it was "A country practice", and decided from then that she would have her babies at home. The thing is, because birth has been taken out of the social realm, and into hospitals, most little girls (and boys) just don't see women giving birth naturally as part of life. Instead they see tv shows of men in white coats, and women in the "stranded beetle position" (love that phase). I think that Nic Edmonstone's stunning birth videos should be prime time viewing every night. Positive birth images need to be available for girls and women, preferably as the FIRST experience they have of birth, before the medicos can put the fear of god into them. Anyway, that's my rave for this evening.
love, Liz.
