I only know a lot about the repair techniques from my husband as
he had his patched and the patch sewn in - there are a few ways to fix
them and that seems to be the strongest. He was worried as he does
farm work and heavy lifting so looked into all forms and techniques before
deciding what was best for him.
His is still not perfect - he still has some trouble and I don't
think he would handle labour but then it is not a problem for him and his
hernia was actually two quite large holes instead of one. he
left it too long prior to the repair.
I can say that if she can support that area from the outside - "Geoff
was told to wear tight pants or bike shorts" So anything that she
can design or find that may help to "hold it in" while pregnant and
then during labour is about the only advice I can give. So external
support!
I guess she wont know how strong it is unless she tries and if it
does need repair after then she she look hard at the methods of repair
- as she will want a good job done.
Methods I know of are as follows;
They have patches that they stitch in, or stapple in with little tiny
sort of screws - the screws are not as strong. If it is stitched in
it is best stitched right across the bottom and the top not just at
points. These are all methods that Geoff discussed with various
surgeons prior to having his repaired.
There is also a method of going through the navel but I don't know a
lot about it.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck to her.
Regards
Rhonda
