Subject: [ozmidwifery] NMAP...
Hi Barb and all...
had a great day
yesterday...
the State Liberal Opposition Leader here in Victoria
Robert Doyle ...came to visit my local shopping centre in Leopold on his tour
of the Bellarine Peninsula to "meet the people" as prelude to the up and
coming State election. I just happened to have a copy of NMAP in my hands and
the opportunity to speak with him one-on-one Re: NMAP (he hadn't heard of it
previously :-0 ). Rob Doyle says he is pro anything that will keep people out
of hospitals...so I said NMAP is just what he was looking for to make a name
for himself!!! Tell me more he asks...well I went on to say that currently
here in Victoria, well women and their babies are being cared for by
specialists...at huge cost to society and government..the analogy I used which
pricked up his ears was "the equivalent of people with heart burn being cared
for by cardiac specalists....huge waste of public money and resources"..etc
etc... He seemed very interested in NMAP and undertook to "look over it". His
parting comments were ! ! and I quote,"its sounds good....I'm sick of hearing
from wingy doctors who tell me that midwives don't have the skills and
knowledge"....
I also gave a copy of NMAP to my Liberal Candidate for
Bellarine...whom I know very well...Frank Kelloway....whose wife just happens
to be a midwife.....He will chase up NMAP with Robert Doyle, with a covering
letter from his office and the current sitting Liberal member, Gary Spry,
asking that NMAP be looked at as a matter of priority...
I will keep
them to this with follow up communication over the next few weeks....with CC
to Robert Doyle...
