Hi Liz,
Missed you at the expo -was way over the
other side - but I managed to suggest to a few early pregnant couples who were
asking about "obtstetricians" - "you dont need one - my BEST births were with
midwives - where do you live? - have you heard of the midwife clinic
at XXXX near you. Do you know you can hire an independent midwife ?" etc
etc
great feedback and some very interesting info
gleaned - one mum even told me she had heard about my books at SLEEP
SCHOOL!!! (I was so staggered i forgot to ask exactly what she had been
told - I prefer to think there is a kind, gentle rebel
infiltrating)
Thanks to all the midwives and LCs at various
hospitals and maternal and child health centres who are recommending them to
mothers -it seems there is difficulty finding them in bookshops -some people
have managed to back order Parenting By Heart when they have found 100 Ways to
Calm the Crying -Crying books are scarce at the moment because the warehouse is
awaiting the reprint. But I have some and they can be ordered through my
website.
Other news - I spoke to several parents who have
been to sleep school with babies UNDER 6 WEEKS!!
One gorgeous couple - with bub in sling on Dad
-discharged their baby - this bub was already sleeping 6 hours at night (at 6
weeks) but was being trained to sleep to a routine in the daytine -mum wasnt
allowed near baby while he was patted and screaming as she would 'distract' him
!!! They later found my books in a bookshop and told me how grateful they
are.
And apparently The EZZOs are preparing a big launch
of Babywise in Australia about February -I have asked the physio who told me to
please keep me informed -I will happily rally a protest to discredit this
'a'hole'. There are others who want to do this so lets find strength in numbers.
I will post info as I hear.
Re advertising birth/ midwives - many young mums
watch Bert in the morning - not necessarily pregnant -they would probably be
working til late in pregnancy - costs for a few ads on GMA are not awfully
expensive for the exposure -it is important to pay the money to be seen than
throw it away on less expensive spots and miss everyone you want to speak to ie
LOTS of people watch Ricki Lake (ha ha) but that isnt the target audience
inspite of being cheap to advertise on - three ads / three mornings ina row on
GMA would be quite a good "hit" - I have had great feedback from people
recognising my books on GMA - mums though who already have their bubs -but hey
they may be the most receptive if things didnt work out first time
round.
The evening prime time would be fabulous and may
even take fewer ads to be notice -it would be such a contrast to see gentle
birth images among the mayhem of war and chaos.
