Dear Dawn and all

What a beautiful piece from Joy, a wonderful midwife and woman. I echo
Joy's sentiments. Although there may be many midwives unable or unwilling
to take on one to one care there are many who can and will and due to
refusal from state and fed governments have been forced either out of
practice or to practice uninsured. What a disgrace, when we know there is a
significant shortage of midwives nationally and that one to one care
represents international best practice; BTW the outcomes of the Victorian
midwives in Private Practice (whom Joy is one) are stunning a 94%
spontaneous cephalic vaginal birth rate (if I remember correctly!).

We must strive to have every midwife that wishes to work one to one being
able to and being funded by the government to do so. I am so sick of one on
one care being labelled as a "Rolls Royce service" claiming it unsuitable
for public funding!!!!

One to one midwife care is a "Rolls Royce" service, and compared with the
obscene misuse of government funding via unnecessary obstetric intervention
it can be achieved on a "Holden" budget.

In solidarity
