My mother would listen to no one when she was pregnant with her three children. She had utter faith in her bodies ability to give birth and had 8 hour labours (almost exactly) with all three. She said all her labours FELT different but all ended up taking the same amount of time.
My first was 10 hours (10lb 1oz), 7 1/2 hours (7lb 12oz) and 10 hours (10lb,2oz) (posterior position and fear of previous birth). I had a wonderful midwife with my third who constantly talked to bub and encouraged me to do it also so he would turn around, and it worked! I feel that (based on my own experiences) that the length of a birth is much more dependent on psychology than biology. That would probably apply to birth outcomes too. Anyway, just my thoughts.
