Talk about "staring at bits" reminded me of a birth I was at a
few months ago. I was working with a midwifery student and a woman who was
giving birth to her first child. She was in the bath and the midwifery student
had been asking me what you do with birth in a bath. I had said that it can take
you by suprise but all you need are the long gloves. Anyway this woman was
really cracking on, doing a great job didn't feel any sensation in her
vagina when she said " Jackie the head is out". There had been no tell tale
show, purple line etc and the position she was in, sort of a forward
leaning all fours you couldn't see the baby's head. I bent down to look and the
baby shot out. It was as always a great lesson about birth and I was lucky
enough to have a midwifery student to share it with me. I handed her the baby.
She didn't want to count it as one of the births she is to record but I said
that she had done such great work with this woman and it is always the
woman's birth. Who ever catches the baby is an accessory.Was truly
delightful.
I bumped into a woman having her second baby and I had been
with her with her first. I also had a mid student with me who kept peering at
this woman's vagina. The woman was kneeling on a mat against the bed and she
told me this time that her memory is looking down and seeing this mid students
face looking at her. At the time I kept teeling the student not to look and to
keep her head away. So she only did it a few times but that woman remembers
it.
