Jan,
We have this advice given to us all the time when babies are transferred
to us from level two nurseries. What we find is that we let them dictate
how many breast feeds they want by the fact that they wake up around
expected feed time. (They still need a nappy change and if they sleep
all the way through it or are quite dozy then I count that as not
waking). If interested in an oral feed they get the opportunity to bf
and if not a gavage. They determine how many bf they have the energy for.
Never had a problem with this phylosophy and weight gain is only one
factor in the whole process.
