Hi all ozmidders,

Scroll down for a very interesting international response I have so far received re: stats for Holland UK and NZ.

Does any one know what CIMS and ENCA are?

Isn’t the internet amazing for how “global” we can be?

I will keep you all in the loop …

Hi Julie....CIMS is the 'Coalition for Improving Maternity Services' (pronounced 'Kims')....www.motherfriendly.org...it is a coalition of individuals and national organisations (USA) for the care and well-being of mothers, babies and families. Thier first consensus Initiative was the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative.

.....from their site.....In its first five years, the work of the coalition has focused on the creation and implementation of the evidence-based Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI) which provides guidelines for identifying and designating "mother-friendly" birth sites including hospitals, birth centers and home-birth services. The initiative outlines ten steps for mother-friendly care and includes a requirement for birth sites to also qualify as "baby-friendly" according to the World Health Organization's guidelines. A consumer version of the Initiative, "Having a Baby? Ten Questions to Ask" is also available.
