Closing date for this position extended to 23rd of March. The Community Midwifery Program is an innovative midwifery service providing primary midwifery care to women in the metropolitan area.
The majority of Program clients choose to birth at home, however, women who need to birth in hospital for medical reasons are also supported. The Program is jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth governments. Currently, funding levels provide for 150 client placements per annum for primary midwifery care. The service also provide information and resources through four metropolitan based Resource Centres, in addition to a comprehensive Prenatal Education Program. These services are available to all women in the community, not just Program clients. The philosophy of the Program is: That childbirth is, in the majority of cases, a normal life event which left to nature will proceed to an uncomplicated outcome. That the individual needs of women and their families must be respected and supported. The position of Midwife Manager is an integral part of the management team of the Community Midwifery Program, and requires a dynamic individual to contribute to this highly successful health service. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, experience with homebirths, and knowledge of current issues related to midwifery. Good organisation skills, and a demonstrated commitment to women's issues, preferably in the area of women's health.
