You mentioned that even in the 1970's women had to be married to get the 'pill'

I was married in 1962 and the day before the wedding my mother had made an
appointment for me at the Family Planning centre in Sydney  [ was it still
called racial hygiene?] My fiance and I walked into the foyer office and
were quickly made aware he was not welcome indeed told to stand outside and
that I was to be called Mrs.. the entire episode of fitting a diaphram etc
made me feel wrong and unclean. there was the diaphram the gel and the
clumsy douch contraption what a turn on and all seen as very much the
women's responsibility...   Elaine
