� Hello Jodie and All Maternity Coalition is supporting this group. While I think it is great to have the Friends of type groups, I think on this occasion we need to be very strategic and link this closure (and the Angliss caseload model) to strategic direction in maternity policy across the state. In discussions with our Vic MC Pres I believe active members in this campaign agree that everything is up for grabs and this is a perfect opportunity to improve access etc. Our main aim is to incorporate more choice for women in models of care. As a most ligitimate goal MC is seeking autonomous midwifery practice (so similarly to free-standing birth centres not like our current ones that are essentially under medical control with protocols that are based on obstetric benevolence, or lack there of rather than evidence).
A support group may grow and I think this is a good thing. In my role as acting national President of MC (and with considerable strategy and lobbying experience) I will be advising this group that our greatest chance of success is demonstrating models that can become mainstream and accept all women (where necessary in collaboration with other practitioners). This way all women can access wonderful midwifery which regardless of their health profile we know will help support them much better into mothering.
