Australian maternity care is not being practiced according to world best practice standards (WHO). Our rates of intervention are way too high and our outcomes are not satisfactory by any means. However, more to the point, to lose MBC would be to erode choice for women in childbirth - a choice for a better outcome and a better start to life. We are at the point where we need to have a RALLY to show the Minister for Health that the community abhors her decision to limit choice. We would love as many people - kids, mums, dads, preggie bellies, friends, midwives, clients.... - to get together outside the MBC and show their support for MBC, one-on-one midwifery, community midwifery, woman-centred care and choices in childbirth. Balloons, placards and enthusiasm! We will be posting a date soon. It will need to be an early weekday morning at about 10AM. Probably a Wednesday.
