Hi everyone Just wanted to let you know first of all that I had the wonderful privilege of catching my stepsons partner, Lynley's, baby. My husbands Grandson, Noah Mojo, a brother for Ruby Rainbow. A natural vaginal birth with no stitches. He weighed in at 8lbs 7ozs. The cord was wrapped around his neck twice. Lynley also had 100mg Pethidine about one and a quarter hours before he was born. In spite of this he fed well with good skin to skin contact after birth. Lynley had a big 900ml pph, big for her as she is a little person with a low bp to begin with. She had an hb of 7.2.on day 2. She has had 3 units of blood and as she was still symptomatic at 9.5 she is having a further 2 units tonight. She is pretty upset, 40mins away from home unable to see Ruby all the time or her partner Lincoln. Four hours after birth he developed TTN, which lasted about 18 hours. Then on day 2 he developed a temperature of 38.2 and a urine spec. showed and infection, so he had IV antibiotics.
My question is how do new born babies get urinary tract infections? What is the incidence of this happening. I have also noticed a couple of babies spike temps and no reason transpires to explain it. Also, I was wondering what do you guys do about cords around necks if you are assisting a hands off birth. This one the head was tucked pretty firmly into the peri and I was beginning to suspect it was stuck! I removed the cord and the midwife assisting me said just wait, which is what I normally do anyway, and the head restituted. It was a bit of a pull to get the shoulder out. Lynley was in an upright crouch with her arms over two people, great position! Sorry this is a bit muddled, am at the end of third term and pretty tired!!
