What about us? There are 22 direct entry midwives
employed at King Edward here in Perth. We are most certainly NOT nurse
practitioners - so are we midwife practitioner's too? We think we
are!

NSW is so pleased to
have led the way for Australian midwives in the Legislative
arena.
The title �Midwife Practitioner� has been used for years by
independently practising midwives in all Australian States.
The �Nurse Practitioner� label is simply one option on the
career path for midwives who are employed. Midwives who now take on
their own caseload should be encouraged to use the title �Midwife
Practitioner� or they will continue to be confused with nurses.
The
ACMI has credentialed midwives who take on their own caseload as Independently
Practising Midwives for many years. The title �Midwife Practitioner� has been
the one most frequently used and recognised on their business cards and
stationary.
