Linda Hi Linda...I had an experience with a follow thru woman 18months ago who chose not to have a second degree tear sutured...the tear was not bleeding and came together very well....however, it took many many months to heal with a great deal of pain and discomfort for the woman, who now says with hindsight, she would have gone into the hospital to have it sutured given the length of time needed to heal and her discomfort and pain. However, this is only one woman's experience. I personally would need to look at the circumstances surrounding each individual woman and her capacity for healing...eg: her diet, is she a smoker/nonsmoker....her capacity to get rest and allow the tear to knitt....( Eg: is she chasing around after other children....lifting toddlers...etc etc...)...and discussing these factors with her in our decision making on whether to/not to suture...
