The problem is that DNA can be collected from just about anything, and perhaps using the blood from the heel prick test is a quicker (cheaper) way. Do we know if they had to seek permission from his mother to use this method of collection? A girlfriend's daughter was one of those 'one in a million' that had an unactive thyroid condition, picked up by Guthries, to me its more important than a possible DNA source.
