A 'floating' high head is one which is able to be moved side to side by somebody examining/palpating the woman's abdomen - it has not entered the pelvic brim at all. This differs from high head in that the babes head might be 'dipping' into the pelvis, it is not balottable (movable), but more than 3/5 of the head is able to be felt above the pelvic brim.
It is possible that your baby's bottom was just beginning to snuggle into your pelvis, but hadn't quite got as far as it might have - again, I have seen women carrying a breech baby do amazing things too, from the baby turning very late, as mentioned by Dierdre, to giving birth vaginally, and giving birth by caesarean too. There are many factors to be taken into consideration and the presentation of the baby is part of a larger picture. Unfortunately individuality is not often (seemingly less frequently) cast into the larger picture. ----- Original Message ----- From: "*G and S*" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 10:43 AM Subject: Re: [ozmidwifery] high head at term > > Lynne wrote: > ' Now a "floating" high head at term might be another story....' > > > Hi, > Was wondering what the difference is between 'carrying high' and the above > term. > I was told that I was breech and 'carrying high' with Nathaniel. > Am I right in assuming that I could have been given time to see if he'd > drop and perhaps turn?
