Title: Pain?
A great discussion Sally. Imagine if we did not have ANY pain in childbirth how different would giving birth be? How different would the generation be? No birth trauma, baby or mother.........................hmmmmmm.......... no obstetricians needed and all midwives would deliver babies! How great would THAT be! Go middies!

Hi Diane and all

Pain free birth, yes, but pain does not necessitate Obs, and pain is not the only cause of trauma.  Obs do not support women in pain (they call in the Anaesthetist), nor do they help with birth trauma (it is usually the morbidity of unnecessary medical intervention that creates it)

Women need and deserve the support of a known midwife to address their fears and reframe birth (from the TV trauma to a beautiful, normal life event).

I am not sure what I think of hypno birthing, I liked and owned my pain (it was not unbearable).  It has turned me from a woman who doubted her self to a bloody Xena warrior woman, who can DO anything.  To me this is a huge strength in my parenting, as I guess hypnosis may be a little impractical when dealing with toddler tantrums etc!! I am JOKING here.  I just believe my confidence as a parent is directly related to my belief in my body and willingness to work with this life giving and not unbearable pain. To me their is value in this journey.
