Dear Andrea Please send my congratulations to Prof Sally and those supporting the metamorphosis of of Ryde and Manly to Australia's first midwifery Led maternity units.
We trust they are as positve an experience for the midwives and women who use them as those in the UK and NewZealand. I hear there is no shortage of staff for them at least in the UK. May Australian midwives find the job satisfaction opportunites that working in partnership with women can bring, not to mention not being on some elses idea of a (un) reasonable roster!! Having worked in both situations, thanks to my time on the Community Midwfery Program WA, I actually feel being in the fragmented medical dominated hospital services is more risky than being at home with a woman you have developed a realtionship, knowledge and trust with!! Not to mention the comparative abundance of positive outcomes and expereinces !!
