Hi Cas,
Thanks - and thanks for your interview too, even tho I ended up going "moderate" - space didnt permit any more than a "one of each" opinion. Sonia's points were lovely and challenging too. I have just started reading my copy of PP - did you also notice 3 birth stories of VBACs? These were positive although a couple kinda made my skin crawl in that they were still quite 'medical' - one lady was given a "trial" but beat them and gave birth naturally, another said she realised she hadnt committed to having a natural birth - but they all spoke very positively about how empowered they felt after their "normal" births. Lets give encouragement tho and hope for more - maybe a letter or two - and even a few birth stories might help - a subtle campaign to  balance the ob push to normalise caeasareans? ??

I was totally [EMAIL PROTECTED]@!! off about the sleep story - doing the "deep end" - leaving one year olds to cry it out/ describing how they "shout" in protest and get angry about 'giving in' etc - I get letters and calls  from mums of these older bubs who become desperately clingy and it can last for years - in one case a (now 2 year old) who was CC'ed a year ago slept after a week of crying - but stopped talking - and refused all comfort from the mum. Instead, if he was hurt he would go to his brother - a preschooler Yes I was able to help and refer, but it is devastating to mothers to experience the guilt of betraying their own child. I so wish professionals would hear how this BS affects families in the longer term - this is another example of "normalised" abuse of families. I can email the editor but because I also do a column - this writer has been sleep training for 13 years and does a sleep expert column - I cant complain in a "letter to the ed".

Subject: [ozmidwifery] practical parenting

Hey Pinky, saw your column in practical parenting (needed a diversion for while at the gym... making an attempt to get fit : ) ) and wanted to make sure Sonia knew about it. Well done!

They are advertising for birth stories I noticed and had a somewhat misinformative article on c-section... this is the 2nd one I've seen this month and they were virtually identical... the obs PR machine is responsible no doubt.

Cheers,

Cas.
