Dear Jayne
There are many things about endometriosis not understood and many poeple are known to have endometriosis at times of stress in their lives which can go away when the stress does!
She is past the ectopic pregnancy risk & it sounds like the U/S that said the baby is in the rightplace raised no other current problems and the GP is doing his we better be save than sorry routine which the ob will possibly follow, justification for more tests and interventions we have all heard before many times.
What does your sister want another satisfying natural birth then she should say I will at least go where I got that before as long as that does not mean more medical hurdles (tests) which could trip her up as she is older (but already proven her body can give birth!!

I think you are right to suggest an independent midwife if that is what she wants but fears she may not get it due to stuff that did not stop her from getting pregnant & in "the right place".

But I believe Either way all women should consider a midwife of their own it is the most appropraite for a satisfying personal pregnancy and birth!!

She would be referred to medical back-up when she needs it by her midwife!

Subject: [ozmidwifery] endometriosis and pregnancy

Is there any risks to pregnancy/birth if you have endometriosis?

My SIL has been diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS earlier this year and after being told she had very slim chance of falling pregnant, now finds herself pregnant,  Her doc told her there was a very high rate of ectopic pregnancy associated with endometriosis.  An US revealed baby is in the right place.  But doc insists she is still a very high risk due to the endometriosis and her age (36) and needs to be referred to an ob.  My SIL has had one very good pregnancy/birth in birth centre in Canberra nearly 10 years ago.

I'm going to suggest she visits a midwife - what do you think?

Jayne
