Dear Julie Congratulations to RHW on the story getting to the SMH but please would you tell this ?midwife/manager that homebirth is where waterbirth in Australia started and continues, so women do not have to come/go to a specialized unit - THEIR midwife can come to them- with a deep tub to hire if their bath is too small !
Having your own midwife is not part of most "specialized units" that I am aware of and research has repeatedly shown that continuity of carer is just if not more efficacious and definitely more satisfactory for the majority of women that using a bath! That is why NMAP is about 1-1 not to bath or not!! Also having seen the tubs at RHW I can not imagine women floating away an anterior lip or posterior baby (prone or in feotal position) as I have got/seen them do in the tubs CMP hires out? Let's give women and our community accurate and comprehensive information on which to make informed choices including those of services to promote or/and seek out!!
