Kalamunda mat services have been under threat of closure ever since I can remember. I used to work as a regular casual there. They only have about 20 births a month but they do have a very strong community there which has kept it going thus far.  It is a lovely little unit, my daughter was born there.
At Swans, we are fully functional but our numbers have dropped substantially.  I think public confidence was shaken by our enforced closure 2 years ago and has not been fully restored.  It is a pity because there is a lot of midwifery experience there, and our customers are usually very happy with their stay.  We had a lady transferred from KEMH 6 hours post delivery last week - because they were full!  Seems a shame she did not book with us in the first place.

There has been a lot of talk about closures and mergers but as yet none.  We have had to pare back some of our services due to budget, but at our present level of acuity we can do this without hardship.

Jane Talbot in Kalamunda said that they have been told that they will close but it has not happened yet.
