Hi Jo,

I am not sure how far midwives from Byron area will travel, but there are some great midwives that I have heard of.
You could try calling " Birth Matters" childbirth information and support group. This is run by an independent midwife and a doula. Sue 66802717 and Penny 66884135.
You could try contacting the people from www.naturalbirth.org.au  you could also contact www.natureschild.com.au Jannine is lovely and would probably know of some wonderful midwives.

I went to the birthing centre in Mullumbimby and the midwives there are fantastic. Unfortunately when I went there was not a midwifery team, you had to go to an Ob. There were three to choose from, I think I chose wrong, oh well! I am not sure what it is like now though. They do have a great birthing pool there. There are also some really wonderful doulas who support women there regularly.

Hope this has all helped.

I too would definitely not recommend Lismore Base, it is nicknamed the "baby machine". I have seen women badly treated and have been personally not treated very nicely there, before during and after the birth. The care left alot to be desired.

Love Abby

Subject: [ozmidwifery] midwife in Tenterfield

Hi all,
I had a call today from a woman in Tenterfield who would like to birth at home.
She has 4 children, the last 2 children were twins, all natural active births with no problems at all. Apparently there is no birth facilities at all in Tenterfield as the local hospital has closed the maternity unit, so she would have to travel for 1 hour to get to hospital anyway.
Does anyone know of a midwife practicing anywhere between Lismore and Byron Bay that could help this woman.
Her next choice would be to go to a Birth Centre between Lismore and Byron.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Jo
