Hi Jo,
I am not sure how far midwives from Byron area will travel,
but there are some great midwives that I have heard of.
You could try calling " Birth Matters" childbirth information
and support group. This is run by an independent midwife and a doula. Sue
66802717 and Penny 66884135.
You could try contacting the people from www.naturalbirth.org.au you
could also contact www.natureschild.com.au Jannine is
lovely and would probably know of some wonderful midwives.
I went to the birthing centre in Mullumbimby and the midwives
there are fantastic. Unfortunately when I went there was not a midwifery team,
you had to go to an Ob. There were three to choose from, I think I chose wrong,
oh well! I am not sure what it is like now though. They do have a great birthing
pool there. There are also some really wonderful doulas who support women there
regularly.
Hope this has all helped.
I too would definitely not recommend Lismore Base, it is
nicknamed the "baby machine". I have seen women badly treated and have been
personally not treated very nicely there, before during and after the birth. The
care left alot to be desired.
Love Abby
