Going well.
I'm not sure what CD you had access to. Was it the one from James Valentine's show?
We had more media coverage the next morning on "Good Morning Australia" - Sheryl Sidery and one of her clients were on. I had a half hour on 2UE Saturday afternoon and Betty Vella, another IPM got on, Brian Dempsey, a homebirth father and one other. It went well, probably better than James Valentine's show, but I don't think there is the same listening audience on a Saturday afternoon.
Following the front page item on the SMH there followed a really good article on the new midwifery led service coming out of Ryde in the Sunday Herald and that article ended with a comment that "in the future homebirths would be offered out of that service"
We had another three-hour tele-conference yesterday with DofH (ASIM IPM SYdney, Far North Coast and Justine Caines the President of Maternity Coalition. We have answered all the questions that DofH needs answered for the state-wide model we are putting up and now have two weeks to put together a power-point presentation to speak to at a peak forum to be held at the DofH with other interested parties presenting their idea on how a state homebirth service should be run. We are really positive that our group will be the winner as it it the only one utilising the expertise of the practitioners who are already skilled in homebirths. It is also the only one that will give the women all over the state a choice of having her own midwife who is not attached to any hospital.
I will put out something in the Communique and on ozmidwifery when we have a satisfactory solution for homebirthing women.
Re your area, there is a new midwife coming down there from Sydney ... Anne Lainchbury. I have worked with Anne in the past and I'm sure she will achieve many positive changes to benefit the women in the Illawarra. Perhaps you will meet her when she starts in two weeks time.
Cheers
Jan
