Well nobody can accuse you of lack of persistence Lois! Every bit helps and Im sure you got the message across

As for news coverage , I dont know , Channel Severn promised something , but I think we where eclipsed by a car chase in Dianella and some bloody cat that walked form Darwin to Timbuktu or something

Hey Ho we are getting through  and I was heartened by all the words of support I got when getting signatures for the petition

A million thanks once again , to all involved ..Denise , you are a legend  and Tracey  that off the top of my head stuff you do is AMAZING

Happy mothers day everyone ..a day off  and then

Love to all

Mel

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the rally yesterday.  I had some feedback from our PR&MS representatives too.  Well done!  Did it make it onto any TV news, or can we expect any press reports to keep as a record?

Getting the message across at the ABA conference proved harder than expected.  I met with a total 'block' and was denied 'even one minute' to speak to the crowd about MC, the rally, brochures and petition.  I tried before the conference, and again at lunchtime and was flatly refused permission to speak on both occasions.  Nevertheless, I stood by the section of table I managed to secure (which the organiser mentioned should have cost us $300), displayed the brochures and petition and managed to fill a page.  Everyone who I spoke to was supportive, and surprised the ABA 'management' would not allow me to mention the activities.  One person took a blank petition page to photocopy and circulate at St. J's Subiaco!  The ABA conference was really good, especially Sue Cox; and Ann Hall was hilarious.  I expressed my disappointment about not being able to speak about MC on the evalution form, and thanked them for the table space in the foyer.  Onward and upward...   By the way, the transcript of the Parliament House discussion about CMP is on the website.  I read it on Thursday.  Cheers, Lois

I spoke to Giz at today's rally. She told me that 11 mps had spoken in
favour of Barbara Scotts motion and they were really supporting the call for
the expansion of the community midwifery program. This tells us two things,
firstly, that mps are listening, are more informed, and understand that this
is an important issue. Secondly, all the work we have been doing, the
lobbying, visiting pollies, rallys, parliament house events, is working. The
transcript of the debate will be available after Tuesday on the parliament
website. If you have the time read it, and send a message to any of the
pollies who spoke in favour and let them know that you know they are
supporting us. We are making a difference, this is proof.
cheers

This is excellent news - does anyone know how this motion came about? I will
ring Barbara Scott next week and thank her.

Barbara Scott moved a motion in the Legislative Council yesterday
..."That the House urge the Government to increase funding to the
Community Midwifery Program Western Australia and recommend that a
thorough investigation be conducted into the cost effectiveness of the
Community Midwifery Program Western Australia and its benefits to
families, in particular to mothers and babies."  Paddy Embry (South
West, Giz Watson (North Metro)ad Ray Halligan (North Metro) spoke in
support of the motion.  The debate was adjourned after an hour and a
half 'pursuant to sessional orders'.
