I remember being toaught during my training that if a woman had a seven year gap between pregnancies then it was like having a first baby again. Obviously this is not so but I think the thing is that most second third fourth babies are born while mum still has a toddler. Caring for toddlers requires lots of time spent on the floor and inadvertently doing optimal foetal positioning. Once you no longer have a toddler who needs there bottom changed or leaves toys to pick up woman may not do this and go back to stting in positins that lead to less optimal positioning and thus the chance of a longer labour. I'm writing this at 3am so hope this makes sense. Night duty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all, I was looking for some answers. I have a client who has taken a long time to conceive her second child and so there is nine years separating the births. She is wondering if the big gap will make the birth more like being a first timer again. What are your thoughts. Also she had a placenta prob last time I think it slowed down in function & baby was induced early, prob presented about 28wks last time. She is 27wks now, is it common for this to reoccur? Thanks in advance. Philippa Scott Birth Buddies
