Title: Re: [ozmidwifery] Analgesia post LUSCS
Dear Susan and All
I liked your point that women see this as the pain free option.
Please I ask you all to put it very clearly that surgery that requires such levels of post-operative pain relief is not pain free!!
Women need a chance to have their fears met and supported and to know that this pain can be beautifully managed with very simple techniques (continuous support, deep water immersion etc).
I also think we should link it to most women’s attitude during pregnancy. Most wouldn’t take more than a panadol, or drink a glass of wine, but hey it’s fine to jump into the pethidine, morphine, epidural, general anaesthetic etc.
Obviously all these drugs cross the placenta and if the woman breastfeeds contaminate the milk.
It is only when women receive this information can we consider they have full and frank information (rather than the ridiculous easy option stuff!)
Kind regards
Justine
