What an opportunity for midwifery to flourish!

Midwives, experts in normal birth!!

80% of women having normal pregnancies, lots of work for midwives.

Birthing services cannot be so dependent on medical services when the majority of women
 don’t need them.  I have recently been saying on media that the close down mentality with no local
 service puts 100% of risk for a very small percentage of women that would be transferred out of a midwifery unit
 (ie as most would be screened in labour and the % of women transferred from the primary unit would be similar to the number of rural women with
 pre-term birth).

The close-down mentality is not safe or sustainable it will have to be redressed soon.
