Hi Tanya,
When I had my 18 week ultrasound with baby number four (who's now sixteen months) I was told I had a single umbilical artery. The sonographer and then my GP were a bit vague about what this meant so I asked my trusty midwife and she said it meant it could be an indication of anomalies, particularly in the renal system. The scan didn't reveal anything else so I had to take bub for a renal scan at 11 days. It revealed she had vesico-ureteric reflux (not sure of the spelling!), but as I like to call it urinary reflux. I was told she could grow out of it, however, it gave her a predisposition to UTI's. Within weeks she got her first, despit prophylactic anti-biotics. Since, she has had two more and due to see a specialist about corrective surgery. Despite the reflux no other problems... Hope this helps,

>Hi everyone....wanting to hear peoples experience with diagnosis of a single umbilical artery by U/S at 20 weeks? What have outcomes been like? Is there a chance of false diagnosis? I have a member of family who has been given this info recently. I am accompanying her to Brisbane for a more high tech scan next week. Cheers, Tanya.
