Midwifery led birth centres
This is such crap that a supposed professional such as a DON
would think that it is better for no one to catch the baby that
an eminently capable midwife. The joke is that if they didnt know you were
a midwife then they would suck up your #### to try and cover their a##es that
nobody was there when they should have been. I have decided that I am
going to ask all clients to join the maternity coalition ( why I already
haven't I have no idea) and get them all activated. They are all horrified
that I am being subjected to this crap and I am going to encourage them to use
their frustration. Andrea Quanchi On 06/08/2005, at 11:15 PM, sally

/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Andrea,/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> I
do work at Rosebud (Peninsula Health Network) & what you say applies/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> across
the networks campuses(also at The Bays in Mngtn Private)./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> That
is : a MIPP is only able to accompany women as a support person, not act/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> as
accoucher, nor act in any legal capacity ( to do with insurance)./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> It
actually depends on the staff on shift as to how much involvement I have/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> in
the birth, but as my main concern is the labour support I'm not fussed/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> who
does the 'catching' but I have found that if (I positively encourage)/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Dads/Partners
to do the catch it gets around the issue of who is the/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> accoucher. At
Rosebud it's mainly Dads/Partners who catch babies no matter/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> who
the MW is. At the other 2 units it depends a good deal on who's on./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> But
the legal stance of the hospitals is as you've stated./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Insane
because I am employed by Rosebud as a MW on bank & left a senior CSM/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> pos'n
there only 6 months ago after 16 years with the network./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Have

have never actually seen a policy laying the facts out, but I'm on night/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> duty
at Rbud tonight, I'll have a good look for you./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> I
applied again to The Bays whilst working there part-time in 2002 & got
the/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> same
response..........no go./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Got
sick of trying & gave up, I had planned to give it another go shortly./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Cheers/bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> Brenda./bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> /bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily> -----
