Thanks Maxine, Alesa, Melanie and Helen for your
thoughtfull reply,
I
did give them all the information I could get and I accepted the woman on my own
responsability. I found already 3 other colleagues who want to cover for me in
case I have a problem to attend the birth. I don't think it is a good feeling
for a woman to depend on one person, I am human you know, I could brake a leg or
so :-))
We
have indeed a private practice and we can choose who we accept, but in the 7
years I work as independent midwife it is the first time I had to think about
that.
It
is very interesting to see how each of us responds differently on a situation
like this and there are other issues involved: the mother contacted first my
colleague who gave a clear message that she would discuss it in the team, but
gave the real message she wouldn't accept the care. Then the mother contacted
me. My colleague was angry the mother took that step. My 2 colleagues are 20
years younger than I am and sometimes that's a problem. I am also a very direct
person and diplomatie is not my strongest side.'Vroedvrouw' means indeed
'wise woman' but I have still a long way to go :-)
But I am glad to hear that they are going to a session about Hep C in a
hospital that is very coöperative with us. I hope they still can change their
meaning and work with me as a team in this case.
Greetings
