The NACC definition has been painstakingly developed over many years by Ruth Lubic and Kitty Ernst. I have personally spent several holidays with Kitty in Pennsylvania (since 1987) and discussed the absence OF true B.C's in Australia. We just don't seem to be able to embrace the woman centred-ness in Australia. MM
The birth centre is a homelike facility existing within a healthcare system with a program of care designed in the wellness model of pregnancy and birth. Birth centers are guided by principles of prevention, sensitivity, safety, appropriate medical intervention, and cost effectiveness. Birth centers provide family-centered care for healthy women before, during and after normal pregnancy, labour and birth.
