Hi Oz midwives
During the Homebirth Conference in Geelong this year (July 1st and 2nd),
there will be a special ceremony honouring some beloved women who had a
profound impact on midwifery and especially on homebirth midwifery.

Most of you will know about Joan Donley and Jeanine Parvati Baker's deaths
in the same week in early December 05.

At the same time I also want to pay special tribute to Henny Ligtermoet, who
could well be described as the founder of the modern day homebirth movement
in Australia. Henny did many amazing things, but probably none more
significant than act as a conduit; liaising and networking (long before
those terms were common parlance) midwives and families all over Australia.

I am hoping that those of you who might have met, known well, spent time
with, had a photo taken with, or were just touched in some way by these
women and their work; will contact me with your story, and hopefully a
photo. Henny and Joan along with John Stevenson came to many of the hb
conferences in the 80's and 90's in various locations around Australia. And,
of course the beautiful Jeanine came to the Darwin one in the late 90's.
Some of you might have some photos of those gatherings and it would be
lovely to see them again at this special conference which celebrates the
handing on of wisdom to the next generation of midwives.

I would especially like to speak to their families and close friends. If
anyone knows a contact for Henny's and one for Joan's family I would be
very appreciative. I have a contact for Jeanine thanks to Jane Hardwicke
Collings.

If you would like to send your photos to me, I will scan them and return
them, so please make sure I have your address Alternately you may be able
to scan them and email them to me, care of this above address.

Many thanks
Maggie Lecky-Thompson
