Having SP1 installed or not won't really help diagnose the error.
Are you able to check the logs and see if there are any extra information, i.e ULS logs (typical found in the 12 hive at c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS) or event viewer?
