Hi Ajay, I haven't actually tried this yet, but it should work in theory...
I am assuming you are just backing up and restoring a web application? If so if you can get the backup to restore successfully (should be okay going from older to newer version) you should not need to run the Sharepoint Config wizard again. You should be able to just run stsadm -o upgrade -inplace -url http://webappurl to upgrade only the web application. If I restore it on SharePoint Server which is patched SP2, will I need to run the SharePoint config wizard again new web application which has been restored. I assume we can restore pre SP2 backup on SP2 box but not vice versa.
