Hi Chris,

We went through this a while ago. The 30 day limit and the stats in general
truly bite the big one.

Like you I'd wondered why the IIS Logs couldn't be used to return something
meaningful....but then I looked at them. :)

By the time you finished writing all your exceptions for applications pages,
theme resources, form views, web services etc. there's really not a lot left.
For publishing sites you could return something vaguely useful in the way of
page hits. But for team sites and WSS sites in general most action occurs
through web part interaction and documents, neither of which seem to generate
clear log entries.

I ran up an instance of AWStats just to be sure and the results were pretty
pointless.

I can agree with Tommy that CardioLog Lite is pretty decent but it also has
fairly high requirements and, from memory, was restricted to running IIS in
32-bit when last I checked.

I believe MAPILab also have a solution, and Webtrends also claim to support
MOSS/WSS. And then there's Nintex Reporting...

Subject: Usage Reporting

Hi Guys,

I am just wondering what everyone is using to monitor sharepoint usage. I
have enabled usage report for sharepoint and user's comment was it's pretty
limited. They weren't able to look through the daily data and the reports
are only limited to 30 days data

I have also looked into sharepoint database directly and although I am able
to get statistic on resources hits but I can't find any data stored for the
visitors, for example their browsers and OS information.

Will IIS log parser help in this situation? will it be able to catch all
the information for sharepoint site? there must be a reason why sharepoint
is using report on it's own rather than depending on IIS log/report, right?

So if anyone has experienced this situation before and would like to share
his methods/solutions it would be great.

Many thanks,

Christian
