Thanks for all the responses.

The error is present in IE (I'm recreating in 8). This issue does not happen
in Firefox.

I think I've trapped the error to another web part on the same page
(Announcements) which has a lot of HTML pasted in it. Even though this isn't
being edited, there is something in that web part that is overriding the
size in the page.

Interestingly, the size is different based on the site theme.
