I hate to bug but does anyone have any comments or a workaround for this?

At the end of the day I want a method where a user is able to enumerate
permissions on an item but not open it. Is this possible using the 2007 API?
Have additional micro permission levels been introduced with 2010?

Regards,

Paul

Subject: View Permissions

Hi all,

I am trying to create a permission level that will allow someone to VIEW
permissions on an item without also being able to open it. Help? Please?

I created a custom level called View Permissions which uses Enumerate
Permissions and other required permissions. I then gave myself direct
permissions to a folder that I could previously not previously see/access.

This in itself was not enough to allow me to see the folder. So, in addition to
the custom level I have tried applying View Only and Restricted Read. These
will let me see the folder but will throw up an Access Denied when selecting
the Manage Permissions ECB action.

I then tried Read and Approve which both allow me to see the folder and access
the Manage Permissions screen in read only view. Great! But they also allow me
to open the folder and its contents. :\

Not one of the descriptions against these permission levels appears to be in
any way accurate.
