On a related note, does anyone know of a way to tell if a site has been created
from a site template?

You're a champion, Ajay.

I have no idea why this method worked over the standard upload but it does. It
also has other benefits such as being able to centrally manage templates and
saving me the pain of having to upload them to every blessed site collection. :)

Thanks mate.

Check if this helps

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee413969.aspx

stsadm -o addtemplate -filename "incidentsubsite.stp" -title
"SPGSubsiteTemplate" -description "SPG Sub Site Template "

Hi all,

I have created a site template (.stp) from a heavily customised Decision
Meeting Workspace. I then add it to the available site templates in
AreaTemplateSettings.aspx and click OK.

However it is unavailable from the Custom tab in newsbweb.aspx. And when I open
AreaTemplateSettings.aspx again, the template is back in the "removed" list.
The template gets generated with no errors and I can't see anything out of the
ordinary when scrutinising the contents.

The only workaround I can find is to allow all site templates.

The template is then available for use and I have successfully created a site
from it.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Kind regards,

Paul Noone
