Hi guys,

The scope settings page for a couple of web apps has started throwing an
Unknown Error. Coincidentally the scopes that were set on this site no longer
appear in the search drop down and are not listed under the webapp URL in the
Scopes page of the SSP.

We're also getting ID 8214 on both these apps and a bunch of crawl errors. The
AAM settings are all default and have not been changed.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Event Category: Topology
Event ID: 8214
Date: 10/11/2010
Time: 11:11:09 AM

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 8214 ) in Source ( Windows SharePoint Services 3
) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see
Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: A
request was made for a URL, http://intradev.ceosyd.catholic.edu.au, which has
not been configured in Alternate Access Mappings. Some links may point to the
Alternate Access URL for the default zone, https://dudsite. Review the
Alternate Access mappings for this Web application at
http://centralAdmin/_admin/AlternateUrlCollections.aspx and consider adding
http://dudsite as a Public Alternate Access URL if it will be used frequently.

I've turned up Diagnostic Logging to verbose and the only thing I can find is
this. Not sure if it's related. Looks like maybe some custom code isn't
disposing properly.

Does anyone know how I can use the provided GUID to locate where the problem
might be?
