I tried both of these - and there was nothing relevant in the log file.
I discussed this with a former DBA who's worked with TFS and suggested
that perhaps the SQL Client Tools needed SP2 on the workstation - we
tried that - and the user also saw messages referring to Windows
Powershell (I didn't suggest that since he doesn't need BPA etc) and he
installed Powershell.

Either the SQLSP2 or Powershell installs caused the installer to behave
differently and actually issue a more useful error message: "Internal
Error 2738". Googleing that showed the problem to be that is a vbscript
runtime error, so reregistering vbscript.dll solved the problem...

You can't use the 2008 Power Tool check-in policies with 2005 because
they are bound to different version of the Team Foundation assemblies.
There's two things I'd suggest:

1. Are you running the installer escalated?

2. Try running msiexec /i tfpt.msi /l*v c:\temp\tfptinstall.log and see
if there are any clues in the log file

The use in question is doing SSRS report development - so he MUST use
VS2005 and they are also using Check-in Policy - so we must install the
power tools.

Will the 2008 Powertools suffice for enforcement of check-in policy for
the VS2005 IDE? Anyone seen this and have any ideas? I tried all the
usual culprits. Reboot, delete temp folders. Nothing in the Event
Logs. This is on Windows Vista Enterprise - and none of the other users
at the client have had this issue...

Thanks

Hi, Dan

I followed your document and installed Team Explorer successfully, but
when I try to install TFS 2005 Power Tools, I got the following message.

I do not know what interrupted the wizard. Do you know the reason?

Thanks,

Eric
