Hi, On your local machine do you have saved credentials for each of those machines with the appropriate domain account? You can add the appropriate credentials under "Stored User Names and Passwords" for each machine (VM) you access and then I would think you should be alright.
You can find it in Vista in Control Panel | User Accounts |User Accounts | Manage your network passwords Wes Wes MacDonald LIKE 10 INC.<http://www.like10.ca/> 1150 - 45 O'Connor Street Ottawa, ON K1P 1A4 Microsoft MVP: Visual Developer - Team System<https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Wes.MacDonald> | Blog<http://wesmacdonald.spaces.live.com/> | Mobile: 613.219.7841 | Office: 613.755.4055 ________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Madsen, Brian [[email protected]] Sent: January 12, 2009 5:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: TFS 2008 credential behavior...or is AD borked? Hey Guys, Our TFS is running smoothly – for all sense and purposes that is – have continuous integration working, permissions, team site (TSWA) etc..all is running smoothly..except for the Documents tab in Team Explorer and I think I know why. It comes down to how credentials seems to be behaving. First off, our TFS sits on the client domain and in order to access it we need to enter our domain credentials in (duh). We’re running 5-6 virtual images which are all outside of the domain (fully self-contained images, with their own sql/domain/moss installs) and it is from these that we’re noticing the issue with the Documents. The dreaded red X is showing up. Now, when we initially connect to TFS via Team Explorer it asks for our login credentials, as it should – which gives us access to the reports, source, tasks etc. It is, in itself, not a big issue as we can access the documents from our MOSS site anyways. TSWA doesn’t allows us to view the Documents tab and gives the following error if we connect from the virtual images to TSWA: The permissions granted to user Madsen, Brian are insufficient to perform this operation. However, having said that, Team Explorer seems to “inherit” the currently used credentials (which are on the virtual images and the domain they contain) for the Documents tab, rather than the credentials used to log in. Reason for this assumption is that our logs on the MOSS server, connected to the TFS install, is showing authentication errors in the event logs. All are from VirtualImageDomain/Username, rather than ClientDomain/DomainUserName. Now why is it that Team Explorer isn’t able to retain the credentials for the Documents tab, while it’s capable of retaining it for the other areas? Including reports mind you. Reason for posting this question, even though it’s not a big issue, is that I don’t want this to come bite us in the b*** later down the track. Further to that, we’re now suddenly not able to browse to TSWA from the client domain with Internet Explorer (but Mozilla works just fine). I’ve long suspected that we’re having AD issues here (long story…) but not being able to access TSWA from the client domain as opposed to accessing it from the virtual images is causing some issues (not all members of the team are using virtual images..the PMO’s for instance aren’t, nor are the BA’s). Now, the error we see in TSWA, when accessing it from the virtual images, seems to indicate that it does indeed resolve the ClientDomain/DomainUserName (eg. Madsen, Brian) correctly – however, it’s not able to resolve permissions correctly – reason for that assumption is that I’m a full admin on both the local moss server, am a farm admin and site collection admin, plus I can browse to the site manually just fine. So, does my assumption of something wrong with AD par up with the behaviour or do we have a corrupt/bug/misconfiguration somewhere that’s causing this?
