We "disabled" a work item type by putting some impossible conditions on the workflow. Can't remember what, something like a required user field populated with nonsense. Anyway, it means that people can't get off the start line with the work item. Dylan.

Hi ! AFAIK, there is no way to rename a work item type directly, neither from Team Explorer nor from TFPT command line. You would have to create the new one, then delete the other one. If you have existing workitems there, you could move them over by using Excel. And afaik again, there is no way yet to prevent a workitem to appear on the different Create menus (also remember the Add Related menu....). I've had a similar problem in the webaccess client, where a client didn't want his customers to be able to create all of the workitem types, but only a few. We ended up solving that by modifying the javascript code in the aspx file. It worked, but only for that user interface. And next version we'll have to do it again..... I've talked to some folks at MS about this, and they say they've heard the shout. May be coming after VS 2010 thought.
