That's a really good question. It seems like they put the wrong command, unless this command clears out the workspaces on the client as well, but I don't believe it does. Notice that if you look at the workspaces command, it is the following command that removes all cached workspaces which is what you need to do in this case:
tf workspaces /remove:* /server:[servername] See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/54dkh0y3.aspx After doing a move like this, I just have users physically delete the client-side cache folder: \Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Team Foundation\2.0 On Vista, see :\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Team Foundation\2.0\ Anyone else want to weigh in? <http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/54dkh0y3.aspx> _________________________ Dave Zimmerman mobile: 651-246-2378 [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.intertech.com/ Instructors Who Consult. | Consultants Who Teach.™ Come join us at the vstsMN User Group (http://vstsmn.net) ________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Steven Nagy [[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, May 24, 2009 7:04 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Moving Data Tier TFS2008 - Workspaces instruction Hi all, A client I'm at just moved their data tier (previously single tier) They followed the instructions here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252516.aspx#RefreshDataCache At the very last step it asks you to refresh the client cache on all client machines. It then links you to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc716728.aspx This indicates to run this command: tf workspaces /s http://ApplicationTierServerName:Port . in order to refresh the version control cache. But all this does is list workspaces for the local user on that server. Is this enough? Can someone provide some insight into what this actually does and why we need to do it?
