Dear Noetic Now Subscribers,
The year 2012 has been rocking a lot of boats, and IONS is not immune to the
forces of foundational change. On the eve of celebrating its fortieth
anniversary, the Institute has embarked on the next stage of its evolution with
the hiring of a new CEO, Steve Villano, and a promotion for the previous CEO,
Marilyn Schlitz, to Global Ambassador (read the press release). Another key
staff member is moving on (see the announcement below). A few other changes are
in store as well, starting with Noetic Now journal...
Noetic Now Online Journal
For a variety of reasons, this will be the final issue of the Noetic Now
journal in its current form (the monthly email will continue). I'm proud of the
range of topics covered in the nearly two dozen issues that have been published
and hope that this June edition maintains that standard with one more quartet
of thought-provoking ideas. All previous articles can be accessed in the Noetic
Now archives, and all can be printed as PDFs. I offer my deep appreciation to
all the contributors, authors, and publishers who gave the journal its richness
and diversity.

The Physics of Near-Death Experiences: A Five-Phase Theory©
by Maureen Venselaar, PhD
The basic features of a near-death experience, such as tunnels, lights, and
out-of-body travels, are well known, but much of the phenomenon remains a
mystery. Venselaar has dug deeper into the puzzle and may have found a few of
the missing pieces.
The Mystic's Journey Is Our Own
by Robert Atkinson, PhD
Oneness. Destiny. That vague sense of yearning. These, for Atkinson, are the
calling cards of soul-making. But what are we being called to do and how do we
get there? The ancient mystics aren't the only ones with answers.
Archetypes of the Cloud: Adventures in Cyberspace
by Steven Vedro
Intentionally or not, our nervous systems are being externalized into a
borderless world of entanglement. The promise is as great as the peril, and our
consciousness must shift to safely navigate this new frontier.

The Nature Principle: Reconnecting with Life in a Virtual Age
by Richard Louv
Instead of "take two aspirin and call me in the morning," Louv, who coined the
term "nature deficit disorder," advocates a simpler prescription for well
being: make meaningful contact with the natural world. The science is backing
him up.

we've already completed this year and make them available for self-study. Stay
tuned for our next live telecourse, Worldview Literacy, beginning September
12th.

IONS in the Media
* Edgar Mitchell was the subject of an in-depth profile in the May 2012
issue of the San Francisco Bay Area's Common Ground magazine.
* Check out this excellent interview of Dean Radin in the May/June 2012
issue of Quantum Health magazine.Keep current with IONS research
In case you missed it, we've started a new email list for those wanting to stay
in closer contact with the activities of IONS Research. Breaking News provides
short, periodic (once or twice a month) updates on things like new projects,
new grants, publications, speaking engagements, and the latest scientific
developments... directly from our
research team. To subscribe to our Breaking News emails, go here. (You can also
find these Research Breaking News emails posted in the Noetic Now blog.)
Did you receive your Noetic Post?
IONS members, have you received the Spring/Summer 2012 issue of the Noetic
Post? The lead feature is "Archetypes of Change in a Digital Age." It was
mailed as a "flat"—not folded, not in an envelope. If you haven't, please let
us know by contacting [email protected].
IONS Editorial Director Stepping Down
Matthew Gilbert (that would be me), who joined IONS in 2004 to run Shift
magazine and has since taken on a variety of projects and roles at the
Institute, had his last day at IONS on May 31 (you could say this email was
sent posthumously). As noted above, June will be the last issue of the Noetic
Now journal in its current form, but the monthly emails will continue, and
IONS' members will still receive a semi-annual newsletter. My plans for now are
uncertain but I'm keeping my options open. It has been a pleasure to serve you,
and I hope that in some small way my efforts have broadened your perspective,
stretched your imagination, and cracked open the door of your potential. May
you live deeply and journey well. My farewell blog posting is here.
