I've built a p2p network which auto-configures. I'd like to know some of the
properties used by others to keep a massive network inter-connected, with as
little bandwidth as possible of course.

Anyway, this is what i'm thinking at the moment; since node(computers) which
can relay messages to others will be far and few inbetween given the nature of
the average user's home-networking default router settings. I'm thinking of
having the average peer (a computer trapped behind a firewall) only connect to
two relay nodes. Given you need to ping/pong every 15 seconds between
computers, what are some of the senarios you've experienced which worked well.

also, what would be a good max for connections between relay-nodes? given
they'll be constantly flooded with messages from fire-walled peers?

  thanks
