Michael Arrington had a great post on TechCrunch today: http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/27/staying-credulous-on-not-letting-being-40-get-in-the-way/
The reason I think this is relevant is because I see similar dynamics to the P2P community. It's clear that most of the "new" ideas posted to the list are anything but. And it's easy for us to tear them down and ask that they read the history books before posting again. I'm as guilty of that as the next guy. But even more than technology, P2P has been about disruption. And disruption is as much about new ideas as it is about finding ways to succeed with old, failed ideas. Timing is often more important than technology. Anyway, as I get older (34 now) I find I fall into many of the same traps Michael does, and I think his call to resist that urge is an inspirational one. As loose knit and contentious as this community is, it still is a community -- and I think we might all benefit by remaining more open to rehashing old ideas than our skepticism would initially allow. -david _______________________________________________ p2p-hackers mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zooko.com/mailman/listinfo/p2p-hackers
