It was also my impression and I'm glad I did not miss anything
significant :-)
I am drawn to Chord because it is well documented. Do you know why only
Kademlia is widely used ? Do you think it is only a matter of time
before an application based on Chord shows up ?

I found many indeed. Together with the research papers on Chord they are
an excellent way to figure it out. A widely used Chord implementation
would reveal the many details that needs to be taken into account in
real world usage. The devil is in the details ;-)
